Skating Experience

I know a few post ago, I told you about Carter going skating for the first time. I thought you all would be interested in hearing how it all went.

He was so excited and kept talking about it all day...he just couldn't wait to skate. So we arrive at the party and it's time to go get the skates. We told the lady what size (size 8) but unfortunately the smallest they had was a 10, so we went with those. They actually worked out fine. Of course this being my first time to put them on someone other than myself it was a little tricky and quite funny in itself, but I eventually figured out that it would be easier to put him on a table to put them on. We got them all tied up and he was ready to go. He such a big boy in them!! And as you can see, he was more interested in skating than looking at me for a perfect picture...oh well. That's kind of the way most of my pictures have been lately with an active 3 year old...pictures on the go!! I'll take them anyway I can get them! Now to the real test. Let's get them tighten right...WRONG, the tool wouldn't work on their skates, so oh well, not going to disappoint my boy, he can just learn the hard way, right?!?!! Everyone kept asking me was I going to put some on...um, I don't think so...not a good idea considering I was basically 'holding' Carter up the whole time. We would have been on the ground the whole time. Now don't get me wrong...I might be good on skates, BUT not that good. :-) His little legs were going in every direction, I was laughing so hard the entire time. I would stop and make sure he was still having fun and wanting to continue (I surely thought he'd say no I want them off b/c it looked more like a work out than fun and I surely hoped he'd be done b/c he was running over my toes a bunch: note to self...wear something other than sandals next time, preferably some steal toe shoes!!!) :-) but what did he say you ask - Yes, I'm having fun.
Since I was the one helping him skate (and hubby hadn't arrived yet), I had not gotten any pictures yet, so two nice ladies offered to help him while I got my camera and took a few pictures. After seeing them with him, I learned my second lesson...he seemed to have more control when two people were helping him. But by the time Dad arrived, he was done with the skates and was having fun running around the skating ring bare foot and landing on the girls when they fell down. The girls started playing along by "accidentally" falling just so he would do that. What can I say...he's a little charmer!!! Then we spent the rest of the night making sure he stayed out of peoples way so that he wouldn't get his foot ran over.

All and all...it was a FUN SKATING EXPERIENCE with no injuries to report. :-)
