Just Plan Weird

ME!!! I'm just plan weird!!! I know some of you are like, DUH, I already knew that, what's new!!! But seriously folks, I really am....keep reading!! I went home on Friday after my eye appointment and told my mom, thanks for the weird genes!! Let me explain...

I seem to always get the weird things or if it's a risk then let's just say it'll happen to me.

For example:
Weirdness #1...When I was about 35 weeks pregnant with Carter, I got this pregnancy rash. Basically, I was allergic to being pregnant!! I know, you've probably never heard of this until now, but it truely exist b/c they had a creme and all for it!!!

Weirdness #2...This I guess is not a weirdness, but more like a risk. I had to have a nodule removed from my thyroid. Since your vocal cords are so close to the thyroid, they tell you up front that you could be hoarse for a bit. Unforunately, my right vocal cord was knicked during surgery and I was hoarse for about 1 1/2 years. This was not fun at all. I went through speech therapy to see if that would help. It did help but it didn't do what they wanted. They wanted it to strengthen the weak right cord, but instead it made my left one over compensate for the right one. In the long run, this would eventually not work anymore, so I opted for yet a second surgery to fix the problem...this surgery was a success!!!! This experience as totally made me thing twice before rushing into things.

Weirdness #3...Still on the Partial Thyroidectomy, I was told that I would be fine with half a thyroid and would not need to be on medicine. I was even reassured after surgery that it looked healthy and should work properly. WRONG...guess what...I'm on Synthroid for the rest of my life. It really isn't all that bad. But still...totally opposite of what they said.

Weirdness #4...Since I've been wearing soft contacts for 6 months (I used to wear Rigid Gas Perm/Hard Contacts), then I had to go for a followup eye exam on Friday. I've noticed my left eye kind of playing tricks on me. Several months ago Carter accidently hit me in the eye and shortly after this I noticed a bump on my eye (maybe even two). I didn't really think much of them b/c they didn't hurt. Well, when I saw the eye doctor, he told me those are what you call Chalazions...the internet says basically a cyst. Something about your glands produce this oil that gets released to form tears and one of those canals got clogged along the way. I feel it used to bigger and thought they were pretty much gone. The doctor says they are there and I have two options (WARNING: The options are not pretty!!). They can try a steroid shot in them...he feels it may work for the smaller one but doubts it will for the bigger one b/c I've had it for several months. Then if that doesn't work, then they can put a clamp on my eyelid and surgically remove it. I know they both don't sound pleasant at all!! AGAIN, another thing, I'd never even heard of before!!! The left eye seems to not focus well when first opened but then does fine after opened, but then when I blink, I have to start all over again. Nothing that I couldn't deal with...really isn't that bad at all, and either I'm getting used to it b/c I don't notice it at all or it's getting better. BUT the doctor thinks that this is why I'm having this trouble. I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet, if anything. I've got a consultation meeting with the actual doctor that deals with this on the 15th. I mean I may have to put this off...depends on how bad it could make my eye look (b/c I'm looking for a job and may have to go on an interview and can't really go looking all blacked eyed and stuff) and what the risk are. It's not really bother me, so I think I should just leave it alone. I'm going to try a few things between now and my appointment from what I read about it on the internet today....warm compresses and massaging it.

I'm not trying to ask that you have pity on me or anything, I'm just simply letting you know what WEIRD things are out there. Please feel free to share any that you may know of. It's always nice to learn something new, right?!?!?!?!

Don't worry, I do plan to share with you the costumes we wore for the Halloween Party. This way, I know you'll come back and check in on us; therefore, I'm just going to keep you in suspence a little longer. Until then...
